Coaching is a vital aspect in the sport of hockey, and can be hugely rewarding. Coaches are in action around the country from Small Sticks programmes right through to National Hockey League and National level.
Southern Hockey is dedicated to fostering the area of coaching and providing new and existing coaches the resources needed to meet various needs.
We will post schedules of Coaching Courses in our region in 2015 here. There are courses for Small Sticks (primary aged), Youth and Club level coaches. The theory part of these courses will be online, which you can complete in your own time, and the practical course will be at your local hockey turf.
You can start by completing Hockey New Zealand's free introductory courses online here.
Coaching templates and drills can be found here.
If you are interested in becoming a coach or learning more, you can contact our Community Hockey Manager, the Hockey Southland Development Officer or the Otago Hockey Coaching Manager. Find their details here.
